I guess you can't keep 'em all.

Ron's 2001 Schwinn "Cruiser Deluxe 7"
This is a 2001 reproduction of a vintage 1950s Schwinn tanker. We got this smooth riding beauty in Wind Lake from an ad found on Craigs List. Even though it was made after Schwinn sold out, the badge on the chain guard says that it was assembled in Boulder, CO.  It has a Shimano Nexus internal 7 speed rear hub with a twist shifter, and a springer fork. It also has a working horn in the tank and a fender mounted front headlight. The luggage rack is a 4 hole repro, and the bullet hand grips were added by the previous owner.  The comfy Persons leather saddle and Permaco pedals are also after market add-ons by its previous owner .  It reminds me of my first bike, a JC Higgins that I got back in 1956, when I was 10 yrs old . In fact, riding this dandy down the street almost takes me back to those care free days of my youth.
**The Cruiser Deluxe was sold to to a guy in New York.**

Casey's '80s Murray "Monterey"
I traded an old Schwinn Stingray I got at the dump for this bike. While down in Logan Park picking up the "Relic", we met up with a guy who is a member on the ratrodbikes.com forums and made the swap.
**I gave this one to a friend.**

My second cruiser. The chrome Asian-built generic cantilever frame. Found it at the dump.
Cleaned the frame up and started on the wheels but never got them finished.
The bike looked awesome in person.

Early '80s Huffy Good Vibrations
We picked up this beauty in Wisconsin Dells. It had never been ridden and still had the plastic-wrapped
owner's manual taped around the top tube. Great looking and riding bike.
One of the last years Huffy still built their bikes in the USA.

Early '80s Huffy Good Vibrations
This is the mate to the blue bike above. Picked this one up in Wonder Lake, IL.
Another good looking and riding US-built bike.

'60s J.C.Higgins
When I saw two bikes for sale for $20.00, I called and told the fella we'd be down in the morning to get them. We had to drive down to Plano, IL to pick it up along with its partner, the 70s Montgomery Ward Open Road shown below. It appears to have been partially repainted, and we plan to try and take off the top layer of paint and find the original color underneath. The chrome fenders are in great shape and the front book rack is a nice addition to this classic design.

Casey's 1971 Schwinn "Typhoon"
This neat old middleweight was purchased in Madison. It is in really good condition and rides like a dream. It had the original front tire and a vintage aftermarket rear tire that were both very dry and cracked. Those have been replaced with a new set of tires that are just a bit taller and wider and really improve the looks. It also had a Wald double rear basket on it which may go back on at some time.

Ron's 2002 Schwinn "Heavy Duti"
This addition also came to us via Craigs List.  It showed up on a Tuesday, and I called as soon as I saw it.  Two days went by with no call back, and I had given up hope of getting it.  We got a call on a Friday and went to get it that same night.  My plans were to put a motor on it, but after seeing it in person, I decided to ride it as it was intended.  The rear wheel is not the original alloy wheel with stainless steel 12 guage spokes as the front wheel is, and the stainless steel front fender is missing, but I'll deal with that.  It has a Sturmey Archer single speed coaster brake rear hub, which is a bit unique.
The Schwinn cruiser seat is super comfortable.

Casey's '60s Hiawatha (Murray-built)
I traded a vintage Schwinn road bike for this '60s Hiawatha cruiser. The original paint is in good shape and the chrome is almost rust free. After a little polishing this will look awesome. It's a middleweight bike with balloon tires crammed in the fenders. They fit and I like the look of the tight fitting chrome.
**This bike was sold to a guy in Seattle. I never rode this one.**

Ron's 1952 Schwinn Spitfire "Hornet"
I saw this beauty as we drove up to a neighbor's garage sale.  I figured that it was probably someone's daily cruiser, and that they had just parked it there while they were visiting Neighbor Bob. I rudely left Sue behind as I hurriedly walked up to inspect the pretty lady. Imagine my surprise and delight when I saw that she was available. I took a quick cell phone photo to send to Casey to show him my find, and after a phone call to check on her vintage, a quick discussion with the owner about her history, and an easy "haggle",  I was fortunate enough to drive away with this classy cruiser mounted on the bike carrier of our Jeep, "Scrappy 3".  This was an unexpected treat on an otherwise routine weekend.

Angela's Late '50s Roadmaster "Skyrider"
This little lady came from Fon Du Lac. We had seen her on Ebay, and Sue  thought she was neat, so we made the 2 hour drive up to get her. She seems to be pretty much complete and original with the exception of some directional lights that had been added to the luggage rack. I'm not sure about the seat/seat cover though. There are couple of dings on the chain guard and some scrapes near the top of the tank, but that just adds to her character.

This cruiser has since been gifted to Angela. We replaced the stock middleweight-sized blackwall tires with some new 26"x2.125" wide whitewalls. They are Innova brand and are a bit narrower than the standard balloon tire which allowed them to just barely fit inside the frame and fenders. They sure look good tucked in there. We also added a Wald basket up front and replaced the tall white seat with a black one.

Casey's 1962 Schwinn "Typhoon"
We headed off to Chicago to get this bike. It was one of those cases where the picture in the ad made it look much nicer than it actually was. If this bike had been for sale locally I would have passed on the purchase. However, I was not going to completely waste the gas money and time driving to Chicago only to return home empty handed. I paid the man more than I wanted to and headed home with a project bike. The above picture shows the bike after a complete teardown, sandblast and repaint, and some new parts. You can read more on our "Projects" page.

Casey's 1979 Murray "Monterey"
I'm not sure if this can technically be referred to as a "barn find", but for now we'll call it that. I saw a Craigslist ad that said "bikes for sale" and showed the smaller picture above with three bikes hanging on a barn wall.
There was no real description, other than this one being referred to as the "old style" bike. I e-mailed asking how much and what brand the bike was, but the owner did not know who made the bike.
After a phone call telling the owner that we'd take the bike, we were off to Hartford to see what it was. Upon arrival we were taken into this huge barn to get the bike. It was very dirty with lots of tiny surface rust spots. The second picture show what it looked like before a quick wipe down. It's going to need a really good detailing, but the bike looks as if it was barely ridden. The fenders are 100% dent and ding free, the pedals show no wear, and the tires still have the mold flashing down the center of the tread.
